Happy Tuesday and welcome back to our recently launched Community Newsletter!
Thank you for all your supportive messages and kind comments over the past week. We are so glad that you are as excited as we are about this newsletter!
We also wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to suggest an official name. We received over 600+ suggestions for what to call this newsletter and will be narrowing down the options – then it will be up to you to help us decide!
If you thought last week was filled with great events, check out the exciting meetups we are highlighting this week, all from different countries!
Yes Fam Surf’s Up
Cowabunga! What an incredible surprise to see so many of your beautiful smiles enjoying the lovely sunny weather in Peniche, Portugal. The organising team invited 44 strangers for a week-long trip full of exciting activities. We are sure that none of you were bored of surfing, jam sessions, games nights and many more cool events. It was impressive to see how many of you went without knowing how to surf and decided to seek discomfort by trying something new. Well done!
Are we going to see a future Yes Fam Surf Competition?
“Organising the surf trip for 44 strangers who mostly had never touched a surf board before was a challenge but I'm so happy I went through with it. I have made so many new friendships and this experience has opened so many doors for me to live new adventures. I can't wait to organise more trips to get out of my comfort zone, discover new places and activities, and meet many more amazing people that form this community.”
- Marta, Poland
A Meetup under the Stars
A magical stargazing meetup was organised at the AL Quaa Milky Way Spot in the Abu Dhabi area. Almost 20 of you from the UAE Yes Fam showed up from all over the country to get together for a yearly astrological event. In case you didn’t know, every year around the 12th of August, you get to experience “The Perseids” which is considered to be the best meteor shower of the year according to NASA. What better place to watch this than in the UAE desert in complete darkness?
In case you missed it, mark your calendars for next year to make sure you don’t forget!
“It was such a magical experience and out of this world. And the bonding part was the best in such remote and quiet area.”
- Ammar, UAE
SPARKing Connections
The Seek Discomfort game, SPARK, seems to be a great way to bring the Yes Fam community together, no matter where in the world and no matter how big the group is. We decided to highlight two recent SPARK meetups, one in London and one in Edinburgh. The meetup in Edinburgh was a bit more intimate which meant that you were really able to get to know each other over some drinks. The organising team in London decided to put a little twist on it by adding a Seek Discomfort Bingo which included giving strangers notes of kindness. We are sure that you made those strangers’ day!
Speaking of SPARK, make sure to scroll down to the end of the newsletter for some exciting news!
“It was really fun to do seek discomfort bingo, really took us out of our comfort zone. Spark was also really enjoyable and helped us form deep connections with one another. This event was organised with complete equal effort between 4 people, Holy, Xandy, Amir and myself.”
- Ash, England
“It was amazing to meet like minded people in my home city. My entire life I've been looking for a place where I belong and I finally feel like I've found the community for me. Everyone was an absolute pleasure to hang out with!”
- Karolina, Scotland
Every week we go through the beautiful stories that the community shares in our Yes Theory Fam Facebook group to highlight someone living the "Yes Theory".
Andrew’s Community Initiative
At Yes Theory, we love to highlight how important it is to spread kindness around us. That is exactly what Andrew has done with his friends. He made a call out on his social media to rally up a group to go around a cliff jumping spot to collect trash. Collectively they managed to pick up 60 bags of trash showing how teamwork makes the dream work. He shared with us how small acts can make big impacts without us even realising it.
